“Moringa gives money and health too,”

Andy Ndofor, Trinity Farms, Ekoumdom, Yaounde
What is your experience with Moringa Oleifera?
For over three years, I consume Moringa everyday. When people call it a miracle plant, there is no exaggeration about it because I cannot think of an illness that Moringa will not be of some assistance. There are people who have been sick, gone abroad for treatment but have had no change but back here in the country, they have taken only Moringa and their health has improved tremendously. It is very important even from a nutritional point of view. Where there is malnutrition, Moringa is of great assistance and where people are sick, it is very important. Many people have come to me for Moringa and after taking it, have had positive results.

How do you explain that Moringa could be used for poverty alleviation?
Where people do not have food to eat or a balance diet, Moringa will make up for the deficiency. Secondly, Moringa sells very well because a kg of the seeds is 50000 CFA francs and around 200g is presently being sold in Cameroon for 5000 CFA francs. Moringa cultivation does not disturb you from carrying out other activities that you may have. So with it you make a lot of money. Moringa gives money and health too. Moringa increases the output of milk in cows and fights a lot of diseases in poultry. It is particularly recommended for people living with AIDS because many of the patients who have taken it have had their health improved tremendously. I am not telling you Moringa treats AIDS but it makes you live well with it.

For over three years that you have been taking Moringa, what has it done to you?
For over three years I have not had an asthma attack that I used to have. I used to use glasses for sight problems but I no longer use them and I can read the finest writing that you have. Even when I was on glasses, my sight was not very good. It is recommended that Moringa be included in the nutrition of children especially those who have problems with their eyes. There is virtually no condition in which Moringa will not help you.

How is Moringa taken?
It is very simple. It is prepared like tea leaves. Get two tablespoons of the powder, put in a tea cup, boil water and put in it, stir, cover and wait until when it is cold or slightly warm, stir again and drink all the content. Those who do hard work or sports are recommended to take Moringa.
Where do you grow your Moringa?
I am growing it in Yaounde and Bambili. There are some people growing it in Bafut.

How much money do you make from Moringa?
Even if I were going to stop working in the public service and keep producing Moringa, I will not regret it seeing what money I make from it in a month because since we went public with it a day doesn’t pass without me selling several packets of the leaf powder

“If the plant is water properly, you can start harvesting after six months”
Madama Marie, Producer of Moringa in Maroua
« I started the production of Moringa in 1997 after the death of my husband. I was selling sorts of vegetables to send my children to school and discovered that Moringa was selling more than other vegetables. This motivated me to cultivate it. I formed a group with other people and today we have a farm of close to a hectare. We do not have any difficulties acquiring seedlings because we buy them here. We prefer to plant them directly by putting several seeds in a hole. Then we water very well and regularly removing harmful grass. If the plant is water very well, you can start harvesting the leaves after six months. When it is not rainy, watering becomes the major difficulty. We harvest only the leaves and use part for vegetables while the rest is sold at 15200 Cfa francs a bag which something you cannot neglect.”
